A dead washer is the appliance people live with longest, because it's heavy, it's wet, and the laundry room door was framed before anyone thought about getting it back out. Before the crew arrives, shut the water valves and pull the fill hoses if you can, and unplug the dryer. A gas dryer needs the gas shut off at the valve first, by you or a plumber; the crew disconnects the flex line but won't touch a live gas valve. If a hose is seized or the unit is on a pedestal you can't budge, say so when you book and the crew brings what it needs.

Stacked units come down as one piece or two, depending on how they were put in. Upstairs laundry closets, condo units with an elevator, a garage set that's been rusting for a decade: all normal. Washers and dryers go out as scrap metal where the facility takes it, so a machine that's rusted through is no different from one that just quit.
