Oak limbs and wooded lots in Pine Hills

Pine Hills was built out from the 1960s through the 1990s under oaks that are now bigger than the houses. Lots around Oak Lake have long drives, old fences and canopy that drops limbs every wet season. That's the yard Rob's crew sees most on the west side: a pile the homeowner started, a limb they couldn't move, a back fence line that's turned into brush.

Access is the trick on those lots. The 14 or 16-yard dump trailer follows a pickup down a narrow drive that a roll-off truck wouldn't try, and the crew hand-carries from the back of the lot if it has to. When the pile is a whole tree, or the fence line has to come out with the vines on it, the Kubota track loader with the grapple comes along and does it in a few passes.

Hedge tear-outs and landscaping swaps in Dr. Phillips, MetroWest and Hunters Creek

The south end of Rob's Orlando map is newer and tidier. Dr. Phillips and Hunters Creek homes swap out landscaping: a ficus hedge that ate the pool cage, a row of queen palms that froze, sod pulled up for pavers. MetroWest townhomes and condos usually have grounds crews, but a private courtyard or a fence line is still the owner's problem. Rob takes the plants, the root balls and the sod at the load price. Dirt from a bed or a pool dig is different: it doesn't ride in the trailer and gets quoted per job through his dump-truck partners.

Orange County yard waste rules, and when Rob makes more sense

Orange County's Porter and McLeod Road transfer stations take yard waste, but only on Saturdays, and only if you've got a truck and a free morning. Curbside wants it cut, bundled and out on the right day. Rob's crew loads the pile the way it's sitting, any day of the week. After a named storm everyone on the west side calls the same afternoon; Rob says where you are in line instead of guessing.
