Groveland sits on SR-50 west of Clermont where the hills flatten back out and the lots get big. It's one of the fastest-growing cities in Central Florida, with the Turnpike, US-27, SR-50 and SR-19 all close. The city has approved a wave of new neighborhoods: Peachtree Hills along Dewey Robbins Road, Rainwood, The Island at Cherry Lake Village, Waterside Pointe, and a mixed-use Groveland Square downtown.

Between those subdivisions is the older Groveland. Lake David sits in the middle of town with access out to the chain of lakes. Around it are homes from the citrus era and rural parcels of two, five and ten acres with a barn, a pole shed and a tree line that hasn't been touched in years. Half the calls come from each side.

This is skid steer country for Rob. A parcel gets sold and the buyer needs the palmettos, dead citrus and scrub cleared before a pad goes in. A fence line of downed oaks after a storm. A pole barn full of forty years of equipment. The Kubota compact track loader with the grapple does the heavy moving, and the dump trailer carries it off.

The subdivisions bring the other half. New homes in Peachtree Hills or Rainwood generate builder leftovers, packaging and the garage full of moving boxes. Because Groveland is nearly an hour out, Rob likes to combine: a lot-clearing job in the morning, two or three garage pickups on the way back east.
