Should I repair my old deck or tear it out in Central Florida?
A deck with a few soft boards is a repair. A deck with rotted joists, posts or a ledger pulling off the house is a tear-out. Across Central Florida the repair is priced by the board and the tear-out is one flat demo-and-haul number, usually a half trailer at $350 or a full at $700, with the wood gone the same visit.

When repairing wins
Repair when the problem is on top. Walk the deck and push on the boards. If a handful flex or split but the joists under them are hard when you poke them with a screwdriver, swap the boards and tighten the railings. Same for a loose stair tread or a railing post. You keep the deck and spend a fraction of what a new one costs.
When tearing it out wins
Tear it out when the problem is underneath. Joists that crumble at the screwdriver, posts that move when you lean on the rail, a ledger board separating from the house, or termite trails in the framing mean the boards on top don't matter. Patching over rotted framing buys a season and hides the risk. Rob's crew takes it down in order: railings and stairs, then boards, then joists, then posts and footings. The wood is loaded as it comes off, so the yard is clear when the trailer leaves.
What comes after the tear-out
Decide what goes in the footprint before demo day. A new deck may want the old posts left in; say so and the crew leaves them. Pavers or lawn want everything out, footings included. The skid steer pulls posts set in concrete, and those footings ride in the trailer with the lumber. Ask your city or the Polk County building department about permits for the tear-out and for whatever's next. When a job needs one, Rob works with a general contractor.
Where the wood goes
Old deck lumber goes to the landfill. It's treated, so it isn't donated and it shouldn't be burned. Composite goes the same way. If a contractor rebuilt and left the old boards in a pile, that's a regular pickup priced by how much trailer it fills.

Poke the joists and posts with a screwdriver. Solid framing means the boards on top can be swapped. If the screwdriver sinks in, the framing is done and the deck should come out.
