Hot Tub Removal Cost in Davenport, FL: What to Expect

A hot tub is the one item in the yard that looks like it should cost a fortune to remove. Around Davenport it starts at $125 with Big Rob's when my machine can reach it. Here's the whole process, from the first text to the empty pad, so nothing surprises you on the day.

How much does hot tub removal cost?

From $125 for a standard portable spa, all-inclusive, when the stand-on mini skid steer can get to it. Cover, steps, the pump pack and the cabinet panels ride along at no extra charge. There are two cases where I quote after a look instead of over the phone:

• Swim spas and big eight-person tubs. They're heavier and longer than a normal spa, and I want to see them before I promise the mini can lift them.
• Tubs on a raised deck. If the spa is sunk into a deck or sitting on one the machine can't drive onto, part of the deck may have to come out with it. That's a demolition job and I quote it as one.

If the machine can't reach the tub at all, there's no charge and no drive-out. I'd rather tell you no on the phone than bill you for a truck that can't do anything.

Why don't you cut the hot tub up?

Because cut fiberglass goes everywhere and stays there. A saw through a spa shell throws dust and shards across the lanai, into the pool, into the grass, and you find them for a year. The other reason is time. Cutting a tub into pieces small enough to carry is an afternoon. Lifting it is minutes. So the tub leaves whole, on the forks, and the only mess is the ring of dirt where it sat.

What do I need to do before you come?

1. Drain it the day before. Pull the drain plug and let it run out overnight. The crew won't pump a full tub, and a spa full of water is far too heavy to lift.
2. Disconnect the power. Unplug a plug-in tub. A hardwired tub with a disconnect box should be shut off at the breaker, and if you're not comfortable with that, have an electrician pull it.
3. Text two photos. One of the tub, one of the path from the driveway to the tub with the gate in the frame. That second photo is the quote.
4. Clear the path. Potted plants, the grill, the patio furniture. The machine needs a straight shot.

How does the lift work?

The mini skid steer is narrow. It fits through most side gates and lanai screen door openings, and it's light enough to cross grass and pavers. The crew gets forks or straps under the shell, lifts the whole spa, and walks it out to the dump trailer in the driveway. It goes on the trailer in one piece and rides to the landfill or transfer station that way. The lift itself is the fast part; unloading the machine and walking the path takes longer than the tub does.

What happens to the spot where the tub was?

A dirt rectangle, a concrete pad, or a deck with a hole in it. If it was on a pad and you want the pad gone too, that's concrete, and concrete never rides in my dump trailers. I quote that through a partner dump truck as a separate job. If it was on pavers, there's usually a color difference for a few weeks and then it fades.

Why do vacation homes call about this so often?

Because a spa that came with the house in 2010 has been running every week since, and the rental guests don't baby it. Owners in ChampionsGate and the Four Corners subdivisions swap old spas for new ones between bookings, and the old one has to be gone before the delivery truck shows up with the replacement. A photo of the gate the week before, a drained tub the night before, and the pad is clear by the time the new one arrives.
